Devlog 11: The End

Hello and welcome to our final devlog!

Art

We finally added a win screen! Now you can enjoy your victory more than ever. Further, we cleaned up some minor things that could use some work, like the nests themselves and also the arrows on our axolotls.

The map also feels much more alive now with the new wind effect on plants and trees.

Further, we made a new shader to give the interactable objects an outline, which makes it easier for the players to see where the eggs and seeds are.

There are also some particle effects that have been changed to make them look better or fit better in our game.

Besides those new additions to the game, we also have a cool addition to our whole project, a gameplay trailer! We hope the trailer can make you as excited as we are about it! You can find it on our main page.

Programming

On the programming side, we proceeded to finish some extra polishing things.

To begin with, the end screen has the final art and now it spawns big faces of the winning team and small faces of the losing one. Depending on the game mode (1v1 or 2v2) it shows 1 or two faces per team. The faces and the eggs in the background are animated.

When pressing A in the connection screen, the characters will now do a little wink and jump to make it easier to recognize yourself when joining.

Next, we added controller rumble when you join or wink in the connection screen and when you are hit, die or slip over ice in game. This makes it much clearer when something is happening to your character.

Furthermore, the nest cool down has some new art and we changed the spawning and disappearing of plants and ice to make it look more interesting.

Finally, the sounds and music volume is now better balanced, since before, some sound effects were not very hearable.

We all really hope that you enjoy and love Plant-A-Saurus just as much as we loved making it and love playing it.

Thank you for the read and thank you for accompanying us through the creation of Plant-A-Saurus :)
