Devlog 06: Production Sprint 1 - week 3

we're starting the new week with some rough ideas for a good-looking tittle for the game

We managed to rig the Dino plant and player character. Figuring out how to import them and display them in unity was a little bit of a challenge. But we managed to make it work! Our characters are starting to feel alive and are ready to get many more animations. Our Dino plant also went trough a little design change. It used to have a huge arm for animations, but we got rid of it, so it is easier for our programmers to maybe make a procedural animation that follows the player characters. The big arm will still be implemented for a special effect in the environment, but we still have to see how we tackle that.

We also made a totem in the team colors, so it's easier to see for the player which nest is theirs !


Programming

This week we continued to add functionality to the game, gave some refining touches to some mechanics and added some visual player feedback.
For example, now the plants only attack players from a different team and if they accidentally fall in the soil  then attack all the players.

We added a circle at the bottom of the players feet so that when four people are playing it's clearer who is who. This circle is also shown around the plants when planted and has the same color of the player.
The UI now displays a temporary sprite with the faces of the characters that smile or frown depending on which team is winning and which one is losing. 
The nest also have a small animation to give more player feedback: when an egg is dropped it does a little jump and when an egg is stolen it does a little shrug.

This is all from the coding side, we hope that you enjoyed our first production sprint.
