Devlog 09: Production Sprint 2 - week 3

Hello again everyone!

This is our last production sprint week. After this we have to move on onto Polish.  The past week, we had a play test session where people from our school could test out our game. We got a lot of great feedback that we will try to implement in our game.

Art

The plant-sauruses now have their textures finished and matching the abilities they have in game. The seeds now also have a representing color. Besides that, we fixed some scaling issues and applied feedback we got at our last play test.

Programming

To begin with, the controller connection and player spawning is completely redone. Now, only one controller will have access to the UI and issues with players from the previous game not being deleted are fixed. Joining the game is now replaced to the X button and before the game can start, all players must press X a second time to get ready.

Secondly, the procedural animations of the shooting plants are finished. The bugs with the bullets are also fixed. The ice has gotten an update and the player will now rotate around while slipping over it (which makes the inverted controls more clear because you are dizzy).

Furthermore, the state machine of the player characters is now complete, although we are still waiting for the artists to add our own animations. Mixamo animations did not seem to work because the tail of our axolotl does not fit in a humanoid rig. We also added particle effects to the player characters. You will see dust when walking or dashing, an effect when hitting an enemy and an effect when the player is dizzy from the ice. Besides the particles, the player circle now rotates towards your own team's nest. The texture of the circle will later be replaced by a circle with an arrow point.

We also did some improvements on the HUD and now spawn nests with each the team color. To finish, we worked on various bug fixes: wrong spawning of roots, players could join more than once, players from previous game sometimes did not get deleted, players would spawn in the wrong nest after fire, controllers could not connect after the application has opened...

This is it for this week!

Two more weeks to go. Thank you for the read and see you next week!
