Devlog 04: Production Sprint 1 - week 1


Hello and welcome again to our devlog !

Art

The playable characters are modeled and unwrapped and are ready to get some textures!

This week we were able to work on the basic plant and playable characters! 
The models are modeled after the rough concepts we came up with. This plant will be the base, we'll be making the other plants from this base plant. We make a first base in Z brush. Then we made it low poly and exported it over to Maya. In Maya, we optimize the mesh and start UV unwrapping it.

So far the plant is modelled and unwrapped, but it still has to be tested for implementation.

We also modeled the player character and made a first texture. After discussing how we like this texture so far, we can work on the other player textures. 


Environment

This week we also got started of course on the environment block out!
With what we learned from making the prototypes, we redesigned the map layout and that opened new doors for the design.

As we are working with dinosaurs here, what else would fit better than cool fossils lying around along with some statues.


Programming

We rewrote the code from scratch for what we had in our prototype so that it's tidy and optimized. 
We also added almost all of the plant powers together with the reactions that the players would have to them.
This means that the core game loop is ready and working and most of the extras are there too!

Most of the tasks that we planned for the production sprint are done, so for next week it will be mainly about finishing the remaining tasks and combining the art to what we already have. We might also discuss with the team to add some extra mechanics that could fit into the game to make it even more fun!
